The Principality of Galicia-Volhynia, later the Kingdom of Ruthenia was a medieval state that was located in actual Western Ukraine and also in some parts of Actual Poland and Belarus. It was founded by Roman the Great, Grand Prince of Kyiv in 1199.

After the devastation brought by the Mongol invasion of the Kievan Rus from 1239 to 1241, they had to become a vassal state to the Golden Horde, but the fate of that nation was not decided yet.

Danylo Romanovych, son of Roman the Great, devised a long-term strategy to get rid of the Mongol yoke. He sought an alliance with Batu Khan, the leader of the Golden Horde, and prepared his army patiently. Once ready, he asked to be crowned king by the Pope in Rome and so he became Danylo I, the first king of all Rus. In 1256, he finally managed to drive the Mongols out of Volhynia.

Our bust represents one of those brave ancient Ukrainian warriors that, as it is sadly required again today, fought hard and patiently to drive out the invaders from their land. Back then, they prevailed, and they will prevail today as well.

Note: This is a resin miniature kit that requires assembly and painting.
