The Battle of Agincourt constituted a turning point in the long conflict between the French and the English that spanned through the XIV and XV centuries and decided the fate of the territories of the English kings on the continent. In 1415, the English forces led by Henry V met in combat a far superior French army at the small village of Agincourt, near the Pass of Calais.

This battle is often seen as an example of victory against all odds. Due to the forces’ deployment, the condition of the terrain, and the effectiveness of the English longbow, the main French contingent of armored knights and man-at-arms suffered a devastating defeat at the hands of the English archers, both in the first cavalry charge and the second one on foot, where they got stuck in the mud, weighed down by their plate armor.

Our bust portrays one of those English archers, moments before the battle when they thought that only a miracle would save them from certain defeat against the French army, a quite superior foe.
