This figure is based on the main character from the novel Capitaine Conan, written by Roger Vercel in the 1930’s. That novel was a huge success because it was addressed to a generation that had lived through those very events, as the author did.

The novel was adapted to film in 1996 by the French director Bertrand Tavernier and, for the first time, he gave a face to the character, masterfully portrayed by Philippe Torreton. He is the inspiration for the portrait.

This chasseurs alpins officer has been an special case. Instead of a precise study of the uniform and historical events, we have taken the liberty of let ourselves be carried along the admiration for the story told in the Vercel’s novel, a highly recommended reading for anyone interested in that mostly forgotten part of the Great War that took place in the Macedonian front around 1918.
