The Franco-Prussian War, also known as the War of 1870, was a conflict between the Second French Empire and the German States of the North German Confederation led by the Kingdom of Prussia. It was a clash between the desires of Prussian-led unification of Germany on one side, and the fears of France about the consequences of the emergence of a new powerful expansionist empire right at its doorsteps.

The German forces obtained a decisive victory over the French, as they had better training and leadership. Also, their equipment was more modern and they made better use in warfare of three relatively new assets available: railroads, telegraph and modern artillery.

As the German Army was composed of troops from the different states of the Confederation, there was a wide variety of uniforms and insignia.

Our figure, a classic Elite Miniaturas reference sculpted by Stefano Cannone, portrays a drummer from a Bavarian line infantry regiment, dressed in the particular cornflower blue uniform of the troops of this German State.

Note: This is a resin miniature kit that requires assembly and painting.
