The English Civil War is comprised of a series of conflicts that spanned from 1642 to 1651, intertwined with the Wars of the Three Kingdoms. The initial part of the conflict is what the historians call the “First English Civil War”, that ended in 1646.

The disagreement between King Charles I and sectors of the Parliament that demanded changes and concessions in exchange for support to his war against the Scots, plus several other religious and legal concerns, led to an open conflict that ended with the defeat of the Royalists shortly after the Battle of Naseby in 1645. But that didn’t solve the issue, and eventually, they would lead to the Second English Civil War and the execution of the king himself by the Parliamentarians.

The Royalist side relied on local contingents raised by the nobility that were loyal to the king, along with units that directly depended on him. Our bust depicts an officer from one of these foot regiments, dressed in the style of the era.
